Forum Title: Mixing Hardie And Cedar
I have an existing client that I do a lot of commercial work for, and he is asking me to reside his 100+ y.o. house with a combination of hardie clapboard and cedar R&R shingles. The house currently has wooden shingles on the upper story and clapboards on the first floor. He is very price sensitive, and wants me to use the less expensive Hardie to replace the claps, and the less expensive cedar for the upper portion. I have warned him about different wear rates on the finishes (he wants dark blue paint on each), but he thinks I am overstating the issue. I do not want to lose his business by seeming difficult, but I neither want to leave him with a lousy job. Have any of you guys tried to mix and match these materials? Thanks - love this forum - have been a lurker for a long time, but finally joined!
